Apparently, someone out there is clicking on my ads with IP addresses that conincided with my IP. Why? I don't know.. Pure harrasment or evil plot to bring down my main source of revenue for this site?

Anyway, it was very elegant over there.. Good food, Well known speakers from the Java Community and of course, Sun Microsystems, Big man in Asia, here in Singapore... There was also the Java Jive Grand Finals... Thailand won, followed by Singapore & Malaysia.

Opensource technology was a big issue this year with JavaFX introduced as the next generation Web 3.0, animation & Java "flash" altogether. Also, benefits of OpenSource Technology V.S. Traditional Properiety Technology were talked about... Yeah.. with all this, I shall sign off here... So who's going for Sun Tech Days 2009? I already signed up!

In the IT industry and world of Object Oriented Programming, most of us would have heard of Source/ Version control, CVS, Subversioning or CMMI. These are tools and standards that help programmers like us to work together with one another and provide a central respository for us to share our code throughout the development phase without much hassle and having stability in the project.

Why Subversion?
However, one might ask, why use Subversion when we can actually sit down together, plan the whole thing and then just do it once the planning is completed? This was called the waterfall model in the past. It is PROVEN to fail in many big and complex solutions to industries problems today. A decade ago, a solution is simple, straight to the point, and without much changes. We just build what the client wants us to build and that's all.

Now, the industry had change. We are given a problem, and from there, we as developers have to think of the problem, generate the necessary use cases and then derive the class diagrams and finally go into development phase. Furthermore, in this age of rapidly changing technologies and standards, our development phase will encounter small to big changes depending on the client's wishes. If one is not dynamic and fluid in his change, he will lose out to his competitors and in turn his income.

So explaining the reason why we need subversion is easy. But then, how do we use subversion? What kind of subversion should we use? How are we going to differientiate between the many versions of subversion in the industry? These are the key points that we as developers have to answer when using subversion.

What Kind of Subversion should We Use?
For those whose favourite IDE is netbeans will have heard of Collabnet's Subversion. It is an intergrated subversioning tool in NetBeans from 6.01 onwards with very powerful IDE based checkout/commit tool. All you need is just the respository URL address, your user/password and you're ready to start.

For those who want their subversion to be intergrated in the shell, use TortiseSVN. It is a free open source subversioning tool created by Tigris as a windows shell extension of subversion. You can just committ, check out or do anything with it from the explorer itself.

For those using Eclipse, you will heard of Subclipse, a plugin tool from Tigris too for subversioning in the Eclipse IDE.

How do we use subversion?
Since Subversion is a kind of version control system using the Copy-Modify-Merge model, it is important that we understand what that model is.

Other than the Copy-Modify-Merge Model, there is also the Lock-Modify-Unlock Solution whereby the file is being lock during editing and unlock once the editing is done. In this case, there is only 1 copy of the file at any time and it has much more disadvantages than the Copy-Modify-Merge Model so currently, the industry is moving on to the 2nd model as a result of change.

Where we are heading...
In Conclusion, with many leading projects becoming open source, more developers are also learning how version control works in order to participate and contribute their ideas to the projects in hope that one day, they will be under the list of names and bask in the glory of their creations. Thus, subversioning is a very important concept that we, as developers of the next generation and Web 2.0, should grasp.

JavaFX versus Flash9 vs Sliverlight.

The battle of the Interactive Web 2.0 has begun... Every since the introduction of JavaFX, Sun's flagship product in getting the slice of the Interactive Web 2.0, the 2 man fight between Adobe's Flash & Microsoft Sliverlight has expanded to a triple way threat.

Sun's JavaFX promised fast, reliable and highly interactive/dynamic and portable User Interface to mobile devices or other Sun's related products making it free from limitations of the web.

Compare to Flash, JavaFX still lacks the very powerful interaction that Flash have. Flash itself has a dedicated IDE / environment to create the rich graphics. So far, JavaFX only have a plugin for netbeans. As for Microsoft Sliverlight, they also included a template project for visual studio 2005 for developing on its propertiary product.

The competition has only begin so there's isn't much results yet.. So we shall see what will happen later on...

Recently, I begin experimenting with the wonders of Web 2.0, the next generation web framework and technologies.

So the list includes:

Ajax - Asynchronous Javascript and XML
Dojo Toolkit
Mashups
Google Web Toolkit
Microsoft Sliverlight
JavaFX

Most of these new technologies make use of the simple javascript & the XMLHttpRequest, an object created by Microsoft but utilised by many other major industries to create dynamic self contained HTML pages. The way they use it is absolutely amazing and I can say, if all this existed in the 2000, today will be a very different place. Anyway, I'm going to cover one of the list item above and that will be the JavaFX. JavaFX does not make much use of the XMLHttpRequest but instead uses its own language, Java, to create a kind of scripting language that you can write like javascript. The even more unique point of this technology is that mobile applications that has J2ME installed can actually read the sites and see the different UI gadgets that you created. This way, you can create a very dynamic and powerful website and then let your mobile users utilise them. Not only can you save much time creating another site just for them, you can also allow them to use different kinds of components, like a slider or a menu bar or even a custom rotater just to choose their products. Its a very new technology though and not many people has yet to discover its true abilities.

Charismatic Authority :: The rule to all kinds of things.

Charismatic authority is perhaps the most unusual kind of authority — it is relatively rare compared to the others, but it is especially common to religious groups. Indeed, many if not most religions have been founded on the basis of charismatic authority. This sort of authority derives from the possession of “charisma”, a characteristic which sets a person apart from others. This charisma may be regarded as stemming from divine favor, spiritual possession, or any number of sources.

Political examples of charismatic authority include figures like kings, warrior heroes and absolute dictators. Religious examples of charismatic authority include prophets, messiahs and oracles. Whatever the case, the authority figure claims to have special powers or knowledge unavailable to others and which therefore entitles him to obedience from others not similarly blessed.

The key point, however, is the fact that the mere assertion that one is distinctive is not enough.
All types of authority depend upon the psychological factor of other people perceiving that that authority is legitimate, but this is much stronger when it comes to charismatic authority. People must agree, for example, that a person has been touched by God and that they now have a transcendent duty to follow that person in what he or she commands.

Because charismatic authority is not based upon externalities like traditional or legal authority, the bond between the authority figure and followers is highly emotional in nature. There exists a devotion on the part of the followers which stems from an unwavering trust — often blind and fanatical. This makes the bond very strong when it is working; yet should the emotion fade, the bond breaks down dramatically and the acceptance of the legitimacy of authority can disappear entirely.

When a group is regulated by a system of charismatic authority, it is typical for there to be a single person occupying the pinnacle of power; charismatic authority does not readily share the limelight. Because this figure is often unable to perform all tasks necessary for the regulation of the group, of course others are assigned positions — but these are not careers with salaries. Instead, people are heeding a “call” to the “higher purpose” which the charismatic leader also presumably serves. These assistants share in the charisma of the prophet or leader by virtue of their association with him.

Charismatic authority never appears in a vacuum — in every case, there already exists some form of traditional or legal authority which creates boundaries, norms, and social structures. By its very nature charismatic authority poses a direct challenge to both tradition and law, whether in part or in whole. This is because the legitimacy of the authority cannot derive either from tradition or from law; instead, it derives from a “higher source” which demands that people pay it greater allegiance than they currently show towards other authorities.

Both tradition and law are limited by their very nature — there are constraints on action which charisma does not recognize or accept. Charismatic authority is not stable and need not be consistent. It is characterized more by movement and revolution — it is a means of overturning traditions and laws in favor of an entirely new social and political order. In this, it carries the seeds of its own destruction.

The emotional and psychological investment needed on the part of followers is very high — it can last for a while, but eventually it must peter out. Social groups cannot be based upon continuing revolution alone. Eventually, new stable systems of action must be created. Charisma is the antithesis of routine, but humans are habitual creatures who naturally develop routines.

Eventually, the practices of a charismatic group become routine and routines eventually become traditions. Inevitably the original charismatic leader must die, and any replacements would be but a pale shadow of the original. The practices and teachings of the original leader will, if the group is to survive, become traditions. Thus charismatic authority becomes traditional authority. We can see this movement in Christianity, Islam, and even Buddhism.

July 31 - Bill Gates will step down from daily duties at the Microsoft Corporation after over three decades.

Late Year
August 8-August 24 - The 2008 Summer Olympics will take place in Beijing, China.
December 30 - Burj Dubai expected to be completed. It will be the world's tallest building once completed

Governments of the world & their typical types.

Last night was talking to Zack and Harold at Seoul Garden about the types of Government Model Systems that the world implement. So roughly, we managed to catergorise them into 5 types:

1. Monarchy
This is the one with the king and his subjects and the traditional rule that were in place for over 1000 over years already. Its where the king will rule everything or give his ministers some form of rule( also known as fedualism ) and pass his everything to his son and carry on the line.

2. Facism
This is the one where the leader is either elected through elections or using military power and rise up to gain control of the government and thereafter take every privilege and rule into his own hands. Most stable, least freedom and easiest to be corrupted if you know the top man well.

3. Communism
The "ideal" of this model was that everyone in the nation work together to do the same amount of work and share the same benefits. The government will decide how the economy will flow. This model will produce a very very high gross income for the country if there's a lot of manpower and resources. However, the people in these countries may be in proverty.

4.Democracy
The most common kind of Government models in these era. Leaders of the government and the government itself are elected by the citizens of the country. Economy is driven by merchants, traders, sales and capitalists. Government does basically nothing.. and maybe set limits in order to stop certain economy bubble from growing and basically get taxes to maintain itself and the country. However, the more democractic its is, the more chaotic it will be as not everyone will agree with each other freely. This model is the least stable if the government is fully democractic with no control but the people in return, will get the most freedom.

Trusted Computing (also abbreviated TC) is a technology developed and promoted by the Trusted Computing Group. The term is taken from the field of trusted systems and has a specialized meaning. Trusted Computing means that the computer will consistently behave in specific ways, and those behaviors will be enforced by hardware and software.
Trusted Computing proponents such as International Data Corporation,[1] the Enterprise Strategy Group[2] and Endpoint Technologies Associates[3] claim that it will make computers safer, less prone to viruses and malware, and thus more reliable from an end-user perspective. In addition, they also claim that Trusted Computing will allow computers and servers to offer improved computer security over that which is currently available.
Chip manufacturers Intel and AMD, and computer and system manufacturers such as Dell and Microsoft, plan to include Trusted Computing into coming generations of products.[4][5]a[›] The U.S. Army requires that every new small PC it purchases must come with a Trusted Platform Module (TPM)[6][7]. As of July 3, 2007, so does virtually the entire Department of Defense.[8] According to the International Data Corporation, by 2010 essentially all portable PCs and the vast majority of desktops will include a TPM chip.[9]

If your application doesn't check for API support using isDesktopSupported() before calling getDesktop(), it must be prepared to catch an UnsupportedOperationException, which is thrown when your application requests a Desktop instance on a platform that does not support these features. Additionally, if your application runs in an environment without a keyboard, mouse, or monitor, that is, a "headless" environment, the getDesktop() method will throw a java.awt.HeadlessException.

Once retrieved, the Desktop instance allows your application to browse, mail, open, edit, or even print a file or URI, but only if the retrieved Desktop instance supports these activities. Each of these activities is called an action, and each is represented as a Desktop.Action enumeration instance:

BROWSE. Represents a browse action performed by the host's default browser
MAIL. Represents a mail action performed by the host's default email client
OPEN. Represents an open action performed by an application associated with opening a specific file type
EDIT. Represents an edit action performed by an application associated with editing a specific file type
PRINT. Represents a print action performed by an application associated with printing a specific file type

Before invoking any of these actions, an application should determine whether the Desktop instance supports them. This is different from determining whether a Desktop instance is available. The Desktop.isDesktopSupported() method tells you whether an instance can be created. Once a Desktop object is acquired, you can query the object to find out which specific actions are supported.
For example, calling the following instance method will open your host's default browser:

Your host desktop's associations are used to determine what application to invoke. JDK 6 does not allow the developer to manipulate desktop file associations. Those associations can be created or changed only with platform-dependent tools at this time.

The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca, "black-and-white cat-foot"; Chinese: 大熊貓, Hanyu Pinyin: Dàxióngmāo) is a mammal classified in the bear family, Ursidae, native to central-western and southwestern China.[1] It is easily recognized by its large, distinctive black patches around the eyes, over the ears, and across its round body. Though belonging to the order Carnivora, the panda has a diet which is 99% bamboo. Pandas may eat other foods such as honey, eggs, fish and yams.
The Giant Panda is an endangered animal; an estimated 2,000 pandas live in the wild[2][3] and over 180 were reported to live in captivity by August 2006 in mainland China[3] (another source by the end of 2006 put the figure for China at 221[4]), with twenty pandas living outside of China.[citation needed] Reports show that the numbers of wild panda are on the rise.[5][6]
The giant panda is a favorite of the human public, at least partly because many people find that the species has an appealing baby-like cuteness. Also, it is usually depicted reclining peacefully eating bamboo, as opposed to hunting, which adds to its image of innocence. Though the giant panda is often assumed docile because of their cuteness, they have been known to attack humans, usually assumed to be out of irritation rather than predatory behavior. Research shows that in cases in which its offspring may be under threat, the panda can and most often will react violently [citation needed].

Movie Review: Halloween
Following the wave of remakes that had begun in Hollywood, on June 4, 2006, Dimension announced that Rob Zombie, director of House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects, would be creating the next installment in the Halloween franchise.[4] The plan was for Zombie to hold many positions in the production; he would write, direct, produce, and serve as music supervisor for the film.[4] Bob Weinstein approached Rob Zombie about making the film, and Zombie, who was a fan of the original Halloween, and of John Carpenter, immediately jumped at the chance to make a Halloween film for Dimension studios.[4] Before Dimension went public with the news, Zombie felt obligated to inform John Carpenter, out of respect, of the plans to remake his film.[5] Carpenter's request was for Zombie to "make it his own".[6] During a June 16, 2006 interview, Rob Zombie announced that his film would combine the elements of prequel and remake to the original film. Zombie insisted that there would be more original content in the new film, than just simply reshot material.[7]

His plan is to reinvent Michael Myers, because, in his opinion, the character, along with Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Pinhead, has become more familiar to audiences, and as a result, less scary.[8] The idea behind the new film was to go deeper into Michael Myers's back story. A deeper back story would add "new life" to the character, as Zombie put it.[7] The mask itself will be given its own story, to provide an explanation as to why Michael wears it, instead of just simply stealing a random mask from a hardware store.[9] Zombie explained that he wanted Michael to be more true of what a psychopath really is. Zombie wanted the mask to be a way for Michael to hide. He wanted the young Michael to be charismatic, and for that to be projected onto the adult Michael. Zombie decided that Michael's motives for coming back to town should be a bit more ambiguous; "was he trying to kill Laurie, or just find her because he loves her?"[5]
Also, Michael would not be able to drive in the new film, unlike his 1978 counterpart who stole Loomis' car so that he could drive back to Haddonfield.[9] Zombie also wants the character of Dr. Loomis to be more intertwined with the character of Michael Myers, as opposed to what Zombie saw as just popping in and out to say something dramatic.[8] On December 22, 2006, Malcolm McDowell is announced to be playing Dr. Loomis[10] McDowell stated that he wants Loomis to have a tremendous ego; to be someone who is out to get a new book from the ordeal.[9] Although Zombie was adding more history for the character of Michael Myers, creating more original content for the film, he chose to keep both the trademark mask, and Carpenter's theme song, intact for his version of the film (despite an apparent misinterpretation in an interview suggesting the theme would be ditched).[7] Production officially began on January 29, 2007.[1] Shortly before production began, Zombie reported that he had seen the first production of Michael's signature mask. Zombie stated, "It looks perfect, exactly like the original. Not since 1978 has The Shape looked so good".[11]
Filming took place in the same neighborhood that Carpenter used for the original Halloween.[9] Production would officially end on March 22, 2007.[citation needed] By the end, Zombie expressed that it was not his intention to leaving it open for a sequel, and he has no plans on returning to work on a sequel, although Malcom McDowell has stated that he has signed a contract for him to appear in two future Halloween movies.
